![]() The fuel expands so the volumne in the fuel bowling alley of your carburetor is less dense,Īnd so the metered fuel is less = leans to the left. Mostly due to hotter engine temps, because of less cooling while slowmoving engine temps go up, that heats the fuel line lying on the exhaust pipe. Yes fuel starting to percolate can cause leaner conditions kinda. no go- no pass- no way -jose.įuel starting to vaporize because its a getting hot is another story, and thats remedeed by doing what I mentioned Vapor lock if it occured- stops fuel souply to the engine, period. isolate and insulinate the fuel lines/hoses. Summer fuel blends from the gas refinereeees. This then creates a circle of not cooling enough at idle, heating up more, and then vapor lock. I can't help but think my mechanical fuel pump just can't deal with pumping enough heated/evaporating fuel to keep the fuel bowl completely full, which causes a lean condition and then the engine temp to heat. My current mechanical fuel pump about 9 months old. I have an electronic fuel pump I've wanted to install (despite this issue). I don't really care about the temp, but usually when it gets to 3/4 of the way I start to deal with fighting off vapor lock. When that happens that is what begins to raise my temp from halfway to 3/4 way on the temp gauge. When I put the AC on, and do the drive home in stop and go traffic (probably 105 outside) I have seen (in my clear fuel filter) it start to percolate. I have a 1" carb spacer on my 2300, and the thick gasket. My cooling system is new, flushed, etc.all the usual stuff. ![]() Maybe halfway after freeway run but will cool right back. Without the AC on my truck runs between middle and C always. Anyway, your thoughts greatly appreciated. I am more concerned that as the temp rises I start seeing signs of vapor lock. Is it possible that percolating fuel can cause a lean condition? Also, I don't care about the temp gauge this temp isn't that hot. I've noticed that when my fuel starts to percolate my engine temp rises toward the 220 mark (or about half way between center and hot). Hi all, I had a quick thought I wanted to get some opinions on if anyone would be so gracious to share. ![]()
